AI teammates that don't phone home ↗
NVIDIA just handed every game developer the tools to put an AI teammate in their game. And it runs on your own GPU.
The ACE Game Agent SDK, out in beta from Unreal Fest 2026, is a set of Unreal Engine 5 plugins for voice recognition, a small language model, and text-to-speech. The part that matters: everything runs locally on RTX hardware. No cloud, no account, no latency tax.
The default stack tells you where this is going. Qwen 3.5 4B does the decision-making, a 350M-parameter model handles the talking, and the whole thing fits in 8GB of VRAM. A five-year-old RTX 3060 qualifies. This isn’t a “buy a $2,000 card” feature — it’s middleware now.
KRAFTON is already live-testing it with PUBG Ally, an AI teammate in a limited-time Duo mode. Creative Assembly is building an AI advisor into Total War: PHARAOH. NVIDIA is also working with Epic to wire ACE into MetaHuman NPCs, with faces that animate around emotion and personality traits.
The interesting bet isn’t that NPCs will get chatty. It’s that agents are becoming infrastructure — small, local, disposable, shipped inside the game like a physics engine. The cloud had a good run as the only place smart things could happen. Your GPU disagrees.
